Well, hello, I'm Dr. Julia Royston. Welcome to another episode of the Book Business Boss Show, where we're always helping you get your message to the masses, turn your words into wealth, and be a book business boss. So this season is all about turning your book into a business. And um, we're still um really getting the foundational tools in line and uh making sure you understand the cycles that you need and the systems that you're eventually gonna need to make sure that you have in place. Now, I want you to know that the things we're gonna be covering this season are not one time operations. They are things that I have done multiplicity of ways, multiplicity of times, trial, error, good, bad, failed. No, well, uh, it's it's always been a lesson. I won't say failed, always been a lesson, something else to learn, something that new to implement. And as your business grows, you need to be growing, growing in what you're learning, growing in what you're doing, and uh growing in what you're producing and ways you access your clients. The old ways um may still work, but they may be limited. You may have to incorporate new ways, get new strategies and systems in place. It's just a constant, a constant um cycle of refinement. It's never official and officially done. It's something that you have to work on. Work in your business, work on your business, work out your business, work in your business, all of that good stuff. Um, so today we're gonna be talking about your headquarters. The last couple of weeks we were talking about system planning, the systems we need to be in place. We'll get back to systems in a minute, but we had to get to the foundational. What are our products? What are we gonna be producing? What should we produce new? What do we already have where our products already are? And um, now I want to get to headquarters before I want to get to marketing your promotions. Um, because marketing promotions is a big, huge part of business. Your product has to be right. Yep. Um, your systems of how people are gonna buy it have to be right, but then you gotta drive traffic to it. And so whether um that's the hardest, promote that book now. Um, the the hardest part, the one thing that's ongoing is promotion. It never stops. There is always promotion that's gonna be happening. So, but where are you gonna promote to? So we have to do that next. We've got to make sure that our headquarters and we got to use it often. Um, as I've changed, um sometimes I use previous headquarters and I keep it there just so if you found an old graphic or something old, I'll leave that there for a while, but I'm always leading you somewhere. So I always have multiplicity of outlets and ways that you can contact me and find what I have to offer. And sometime when I'm transferring over to a new system, I hold on to the old system for a while, maybe three to six months before I move and change to something else. I am not one of those people who, oh, okay, I stop altogether and then you're lost. No, no, no, no. I'm gonna connect the dots. Um, and so make sure that sometimes that you have carryover, that where you start that headquarters starts, that you take some time to leave it there as you're transitioning to something new. So let me just start. First off, when I first started, um, not only just with my book, but ministry, singing, etc., those of you don't know who are meeting me for the first time, uh, I sang um in person. So therefore, the biggest headquarters was meeting me in person. So on social media or my communication newsletter, I always said meet me here, because that was the biggest thing. I didn't have a website when I first started. 25, 30 years ago, I wouldn't have thought I would ever had a website. Um uh 25 years ago, I was on social media heavy. I went live on uh every day. So I was heavy there. But as far as really having a headquarters besides social media, you had to meet me in person. You heard heard me sing, and then you came to the table in the back and brought my products. But now, 25 years later, e-commerce is key. Being able to find you online somewhere is really key. Uh, sidebar conversation, but think of the recent years, the last three to five years, even no one matter when you're listening to this, but the last three to five years, uh, we have seen a decline in um visiting brick and mortars. Now, if you're going to restaurants and out to eat and stuff like that, yeah, they still have it, but they still have delivery to your house. They still have um, you know, Uber Eats and all those things that have um arisen. So they're making they have another stream of income that way. So being able to connect with people online as well as an import person, brick and mortar is really key. And having them to be able to do both ways. Also, in recent years, you've seen a decline of people visiting malls. Uh, during the holidays, you know, it used to be just they had police out there and the orange cones. If you're in the U.S., the orange cones and police doing the uh traffic control and all that. Um, the holiday season of 2025, I could pretty much get anywhere I was wanting to go, even the week of Christmas. And me and my husband were like, this is not normal. No, because most of the people have ordered whatever they're gonna have for the holiday. They've ordered it online, they had it delivered to the house. Some of them have already returned it and got something new, even before Christmas started. So, therefore, having a place where people can find you online is really, really key. Not only just find you to be able to buy from you. That's really one of the key things is that people like, I'm there, I'm there, but do we have a link? Can we buy it? Can we get it? We see it, but can we buy it? Can we get it? Can we see it? You gotta make sure that people can not only see it, but they can buy it. Okay, so having a a way for people to purchase your product is really key. Now, I know that the majority of people, not all, but the majority of people have their books on kdp.amazon.com. This is the book business boss. So let's let's talk from the author perspective first. Because it doesn't matter whether you're an author or you're selling some other product or in some other uh industry, um, you still have to have a way for people to purchase it. So let me speak to the authors first, and then I'll go to other people. So whether you're selling body butters or whether you're selling clothes or whether you're selling something else, um, you'll be able to use the the next couple things that I'm talking about. So as far as having books uh on KDP, you should be there. They're the biggest, they're the largest. Um, and yes, it should be there. It's great for people to find you and say, oh, they said they wrote a book. Let's see if I can find Amazon and use this gift card or use this um balance that I have, or I don't know, it's just tied to my debit card, and I want to use it there as opposed to whatever system I think they have. So they go and buy your book, okay? But you get royalties on a monthly basis, so it's not immediate. They pay the 29th of the month, and you have no clue who bought it. You're thankful for the royalties. I am. Every month I get royalties, I'm appreciative, I'm grateful if you found me, but that's not the preferred method. I want you to find me on social media. And then I want you to go to my website. I want you to go to my headquarters, my part of the internet real estate. I want you to purchase from me because I know who purchased, and I can sell to you again. I can communicate with you, I can send you discount codes, I can um give you new information, what I'm selling new, what I have to offer new. I can motivate, I can inspire, I can tell you where I'm gonna be in person and you meet me. I can speak, I can send you to my YouTube channel, I can right, you get the point. So having your main headquarters to be Amazon is not what I highly suggest. I suggest that you have your book there, but I suggest you use them as your printer because they're still the US, the cheapest US printer of books, paperback, hardback. Now, you have different um preferences for paper and all that, then you use other printers. But if you want just straight cold, um print on demand, they're the cheapest. Now it all depends on you. This is your book business. So you decide where you want to print and how you want to access. But for me, I want you to come to my headquarters. I want you to come to my house. Now, you can sell via social media. You can send a payment link through social media to people and they can pay for the book there. Okay, that still comes to you, but remember, social media, you don't own it. So if they decide, okay, I'm I'm selling Facebook, I'm selling Instagram, I'm selling, it's a multi-billion dollar business, but if they decide they want to shut it down, you may know who bought it, but that's not still not your headquarters. That's still not your piece of the internet real estate. So you don't own that. Um, you just, you know, lease in there. And if the uh leaseholder decides they want to sell and move on, they gone and they move it on. So therefore, you have to really think about what that looks like and what that is like. That might be something when it first starts, but you need to be figuring out where you're gonna have your own headquarters, where you're gonna lead people. Yes, you can include that you're on that social media while it's there. Should also mainly be sending people to your own site. Now, some of you I know are already saying, I don't want a website, I don't want a full website. Julia, what do I do next? Stay tuned. After this break, I'll be back with more. So you don't have the time or budget to create a website, no problem. Learn how you can create a one-page bio link site at juliaoystore.com. The mini course includes the videos, handouts, and the ebook business in the digital online and virtual space. No website, no problem. I'm Dr. Julia Royston at BK Royston Publishing. You're listening to the Book Business Boss Show, where we're helping you get your message to the masses, turn your words into well, be a book business boss, take that book into a business. Alrighty, so we're talking about headquarters. Where are you going to um sell your book? Where are people, where are you gonna market and promote to? Where are you gonna lead people? Um, it doesn't matter whether you're just selling a book, but then you turn it into uh workshops and classes and meeting and all that good stuff. You need to have a place where you're sending people. So you need a headquarters. So we've talked about in person for years, and I still do in person to this day. When people meet me, they make a decision whether they know, like, and trust me and want to buy from me, and I love it. Normally, somebody will buy something that I have, and then e-commerce is king, so you need to have an online um space to be able to do that. I just highly recommend it. Yes, you should have your book on KDP. Absolutely. Um, that's the first line of defense for me. That's by default, that is where everything should be, unless they do not print in that format, they do not print in that layout, then I have alternatives. But KDP is still the cheapest um US printer in in the country. And then selling via social media is really, really great. But um, what if something happens? You need to be able to get them off social media. Um, you you know who bought it, yes, and you know what they bought, you can ship to them. But if something happens and social media moves on, ask the MySpace people, ask the Periscope people what happens, you still have to get a place for them to find you. So, one of the first things before getting a website, uh, if you're not quite ready for that, and websites can vary. You can find somebody who can do one for $500. I know that AI does it. I've never had an AI site. I've built all of mine from scratch or with templates. So um, you know, if you have somebody do it, you're able to learn it, that's fine. Um, and but there usually is a monthly fee that goes along with it, either for the domain or for the software. So it's your headquarters, but it's still got, you know, as it say, we still gotta pay taxes there. We gotta stay pay to be set up there. It's just like anything else. There's always a fee to be paid. There's nothing absolutely free. Even if you own your home, own your condo, own what you have, own the land, you still gotta pay taxes. Uh and so that is what it is. Um, but even if you uh a bio link site is it basically has links for people to pay. It is a one, usually a one page, uh looks like a one-page landing page. Now landing page is more of a a sales page, it's more of a lot more text. A bio link site is straight links. And um, so the the two that I have used the most are solo.to and link tree. And link uh tree is L I N. Let me get the correct uh spelling for uh Linktree. L-I-N-K-T-R dot E. That's L-I-N-K-T-R dot E. And then if you do forward slash BK Royston Publishing, you'll be able to see my Linktree site. There's a new um uh company that I was just introduced to um by a uh someone I was interviewing. So there's a new uh bio link site that is um a new and out and up and coming. It's called Easy Tree. That's E is an A, Z is in Zebra, T is in Tom, R E E dot me. So EasyTree dot me is another bio link site. Um, so that is allows and it's free to start up. The the other ones are too, and then there is you know one dollar a month, and then there's some that are five dollars, but find out what the the plan is and what actually works for you. Um if you you know there is a free starter, and that's a good way to at least start and drive traffic there. But as it you need more, then you'll have the ability to to upgrade and do more. Um, the other thing, too, is that you know, having the ability for QR codes for people to pay, and we'll talk about that too, as well. But you need you're gonna need some some other tools to to work along with this process, but primarily, you know, we need a part of the internet real estate. We need somewhere to be online. Now, another place that's looks like a bio link site, but actually has a store associated with it, is a stand store. So, but the only thing with the stand store that I'm I don't quite like, until you can build up a uh a following and an audience, there's a monthly fee that goes along with it. It's not free. So if you need that to give you incentive and as I say, put some fire behind you and keep you moving, uh great. But me, I want it to be uh I want to be able to build it at my own pace. I want to be able to not have that monthly fee uh looking over my shoulder. Now, a dollar a month, okay, I'm cool with. You know, $12 a year for something, I only just need to sell one book from it and I'm good for the whole year. But something that's charging me $15, $20, $30 a month, that can get up to the three or four hundred dollars a year thing. Yeah, you got to be on your hustling grind for that. So think about those bio link sites. So when you go to a bio link site, you normally have either a payment link or some people direct it directly to Amazon. You know, this is their electronic place, and then they take it to Amazon. Me, I still want to keep you in my uh in my community, in my tribe with me. So um there are payment uh links where it can just be a link to one product or link to one class or will link to one course. And it could be recurring, it could be like an invoice that happens over time, but it has the ability to um you know go still stay within your system. So you don't have uh you have a third party for the credit card fee, the 2.9%, but otherwise it's staying within you. You know who bought it, you know um how they paid the whole nine yards. So those payment links I usually use are PayPal or SquareUp. Squareup.com is is a um a payment system. They actually own Cash App, SquareUp does. So people can pay with either a credit card or they can pay um with Cash App. So that um that helps. You could establish payment links through PayPal, and PayPal owns Venmo. So that gives the option of paying with a credit card or debit card and Venmo. Oh yeah. Um also um not only just Cash App, um, I think Apple Pay and Google Pay through SquareUp too as well. So having the more ways to pay via your headquarters is even better. So we'll talk a little bit more about payment systems, but establishing a headquarters that's yours for people to be able to find you, can you can get them off of social media? Let them find you on social media, don't get off social media at all, but just have an option and a reason for people to get off of social media. So, you know, this this is an evolved process. If you ever need any help, you got questions about anything, what did you mean? What did you say? Go to um let's have a conversation at talkwithroyston.com. Also, I have pre done courses all the way already. That biolink course is already up and available in my store. I just want to reemphasize it. You heard it in the commercial, but I really want to re-emphasize that if you have no website, no problem, but you need your own internet real estate, go to julia roystonstore.com. Julia Roystonstore.com. I probably have the courses come up first, even before you get to books or anything else, because I'm really emphasizing courses while I build some other uh website, some other headquarters. You know how it is, we're in transition, we're building something else, but you there's not going to be no lack of you being able to purchase products and services from us. So go to juliaroystonstore.com. The online courses for instant access information is already set up and available for you and um to help you along your journey. So keep listening into the Book Business Ball show and having an opportunity to listen to more tools, no more resources. If you come away every week with one nugget, one idea, one tool to help you take your book into a business, it was worth it all. I'm Dr. Julia Royston. Until next time, be blessed and have a great day.
