SPEAKER_05

Well, hello, I'm Dr. Julia Royston, and welcome to another edition of the Book Business Boss Show, where I'm always seeking to help you get your message to the masters, turn your words into wealth, and be a book business boss. So I know last week we were talking about systems planning, how are people going to contact you the five ways, just as a quick reminder, how they're going to contact you, how they're going to find you for more information, how are they going to meet you? Is that ever in person or is that sometimes online? Um, using Google Meets or Zoom, etc. How are they gonna buy from you? And if they the media wants to interview you, and I know you're thinking, ooh, that's a little bit out of my comfort zone, but it can happen. And you want that because you want to get in front of new audiences. How can people interview me? How can they do business with me and work with me? And so last week when we ended, I'm like, I'm gonna be talking about marketing and promotions. And yes, I'm gonna be talking about that, but not today. Because I felt myself, you know, I'm wanting to go step by step, and and I know I've even in these first few episodes of this season, given a lot of information. I don't want to be all over the place. I want to be succinct, but sometimes it's not. You do this first and then you do that next. Sometimes one activity leads to something else. You just have to know that that is a part of a business activity. And so the first few episodes, I really talked about you preparing you for business, preparing your family, etc. But now I gotta get into the nuts and bolts of you know, as they say, the the putting it together, hammer, nail, brick by brick, level by level. But I can't truthfully say it was a straight path to do anything, business, personal. Sometimes you take detours, sometimes you feel like you're stuck, but really you're in the best time of learning and understanding and defining and refining and all of that of the process. And so, therefore, um, you know, every part of this journey, and it is a journey, it's not a sprint. People who look like they rose out of nowhere overnight, they've been grinding for years, they've been grinding for a while, they've been getting no's and they've been getting yeses. So, um, so I don't want it to seem like, and you do that next, and ta-da, it's some magical format. It's not, it's no magical formula. It's all about belief, it's all about movement, it's all about keeping your mindset focused, even when you your mind goes, let's just quit. Um, and keeping your momentum and keeping focus, but getting back on that horse, going to bed, having a good night's sleep, getting back up, and say, what are we gonna chip away today? What are we gonna build today? What are we gonna add today? What do we have to get accomplished today? Who do we have to call? Who do we have to meet? Who do I have to uh almost run down and chase down? I mean, um don't be a soccer. Uh I'm not saying that, but you're gonna have to be tenacious in in this world, whether it's just book or you have your book going along with another industry, whatever your industry is, it's it's gonna take some uh tenacity. So I I found myself in that old um what is it? It's like uh which came first, the chicken of the egg. And you know, and I'm like, well, did I market and promote first, or did I have a product first? Or which is more important? Do I have to, you know, and then I always get frustrated when people are marketing and promoting. I'm all that and all that, and they don't have the back-end systems in in place, but they're out there. Well, if you get eyes on you, then maybe you can get that together. So it's it's a vicious business cycle. It's something that you have to, it's something you work on. You work on your business, just like you work on anything else. You work on your house. You can't leave it unattended and never uh wash dishes and you're gonna have a mess on your hand. You can't ever just leave, I'll get them closed later. But later better be today, because if you wait a week, you'll have a pile so high it'll take you a week to get under. You know what I'm saying? So therefore, it's a vicious cycle. So I don't want you to think, oh, wait a minute, I didn't do this first before I did this. No, it doesn't work like that. So I want to give you all the pieces of the puzzle or all the pieces, all the tools and the resources that you're gonna need. But I can't, you know, I I gotta tell you, these are the steps that I took, and these are the pieces I had, but it was a vicious cycle. Sometimes I thought I had enough uh books in production. I thought I was good with three books, and 150 books later I realized, ooh, I was just getting started. So um it's it's all those services that go together. You need to be figuring out what you need to produce, as well as always marketing and promoting. That's the reason why I go live uh every uh every week. That's the reason why I post every week. I don't know what's gonna hit, but I keep moving. I keep writing, I keep producing new things. So let me just give you some some ideas about production. And so um the offers will change, and you'll need to produce something else. When I say the offers will change, I'm not saying that you know you stop selling your book and just sell other things. They'll all go together. They should be accompanying materials and go together. So this week I may be offering this, and next week I may be offering something else. But I'm gonna go back and get that other thing because it's other evergreen. So, for example, um, at the beginning of the year, I offered um in January about review. It's time to review your systems, whatever. Well, that's an ongoing thing. That's something you're gonna do every month. February, I'll offer it again. Okay, let's let's see what we have to review for this month. Every quarter, I'll offer what does the quarter goal look like? What is what do we have to do for this quarter? What needs to be done now? And it and it's just an ongoing process. So that's the reason why I say the offers will change. Meaning, you know, you won't get rid of stuff unless it's just obsolete and won't work. But um, the offers will change, but we'll come back around to it because it's evergreen. I'll be offering that book and that checklist again. When I get my um physical books in hand, I'll offer that. Here you go. And you get the checklist for free. And the book is $20 that explains it. Yeah. I have a product to sell. My biological father said uh the gifted should never be broke a day in their life. In production and in business, you're just pivoting and moving and finding new audiences and read. It's just it's just a constant, constant. Okay. So um, so let me just give some basic ideas. If you have written a book already. Now, let me just stop here. If you have not written your book yet, uh I encourage you to do so because this is the book business boss, and I did put the book first. Um, but if you have a business and you don't have a book, let's have a conversation. Talk with Royston.com. I'll just put that out there first. Okay. If you have a one book and it hasn't sold or you struggle with it, talk with Royston.com. Okay, and let's have a conversation. All right. So if you've written a memoir, a lot of people have written personal memoirs. Some of them have been very um traumatic, and you've been through a lot of ups and downs, and you've had some horrific things happen to you, but you survive. And you have a memoir. And besides you having to tell the story, you're gonna have to talk about it, and we'll talk about services another time, but you may have that book, and then you may need to add a journal or a planner with it. So that's one idea for production that I have for you. Not only having the memoir, which is a story, which is the what happened and the why and all that good stuff. But then you might need to add another product with it that is a journal or planner that has the people who read it and how they're responding to it. It allows for two-way communication. It also allows you to have another product, in addition to the, you know, just the facts, this is what happened, this is how I felt. Now, how does that make you feel? And these are the lessons I learned. How do you respond to that? Now, some of them have the questions already in it, but then sometimes, depending on the memoir, and after I look at it, if if you bring it to me, I'll tell you, uh, this needs a journal or planner by itself. And um, you you may have like a couple of reflection questions, but you know, uh, and I love people being able to write in the book, but sometimes you want a journal and planner with no dates, no times on it, but you want a journal and planner that people can respond to. And and eventually, if you ever have a service of business coaching, personal coaching, uh, if you're a therapist or a counselor, ministry leader, they can use the journal and planner by itself. So consider, think about you know, the other product. You're always gonna be marketing promoting your memoir and videos, and we'll talk about a marketing promotion schedule and what that all looks like. But production-wise, you you even if you're not ready to do it right now, put that on your list within the next three to six months. Because what's gonna end up happening is somebody's gonna ask for it. Have you ever thought about it? So I might as well tell you up front. Next thing is uh a children's book. So if you've written that memoir and you want to help children um at earlier ages, I I feel like the earlier on some subjects, now some subjects are a little um more than children should be exposed to, and you can leave that up to your parents. But you know, when you write a memoir and you say, I had low self-esteem, or you know, I just really it was it was a lot for me. I had, you know. Well, then as a child, then you need to have an accompanying product that goes along with it to be able to build up a child so they don't hopefully fall into the low self-esteem that they are encouraged to be all that they should be. So having a children's book that goes along with that memoir for the adult, and you're starting earlier. I think besides some other, you know, uh career things that I was doing, I knew and I tell authors now don't wait till they're high schoolers to be starting to develop a principle or a practice that they could have started in some way, shape, or form, age appropriate, of course, as a child, as opposed to waiting till everything has happened and the world has crashed and blown up for them to be able to encourage that and establish that. So if you do have a memoir, think about doing a children's book that reinforces that no bully policy. I am worth it, I'm beautiful, I'm smart, I'm creative, I'm all of those things. And it is another physical product that you'll have, another book. But also think about, you know, if you ever thought about having uh either a doll or some type of uh figurine that goes along with it. That can be an additional product to sell to as well. A coloring book, kids love that too, as well. Adult coloring books, and I'll talk about that in a minute, but uh a journal of some kind, you know, we used to call it back in the day. Um, they used to sell those at the book fairs, those uh diaries, and we loved it had the little key and all that. It was cute, it was adorable. But you know, having something that reinforces your message could really and it and spans not only children but also adults, it makes all the difference in the world. We're gonna take a break right here. We'll be back with more. Product creation is one of those things that's an ongoing process, it is an ability for you to have more products in the office. If you don't have many products to sell or wonder why some people don't buy from you, it may be that they don't know how important your product is to the betterment and the benefit of their life. Start there, and I gave that one for it to you for free. Yeah! Start again, Brian. If you don't have many products to sell, or wonder why some people don't buy from you, it may be that they don't know how important your product is to the betterment and benefit of their life. Start there, and I gave you that one for free. More products can lead to more profits and more opportunities for people to want to work with you, buy from you, be in your community even more. Let's find out what we need to create. Product creation by Julia A. Royston, available at juliaroystonstore.com. That's juliaroystonstore.com. And we're back. I'm Dr. Julia Royston, and you're listening to the Book Business Boss Show, where I am seeking to help you get your message to the masses, turn your words into wealth, and be a book business boss. So we've been talking about production. Producing products, and um, eventually we'll be talking about services, but definitely uh producing products because the more products you have, potentially more profits. And the more profits, hopefully, then you can get to more people. And it's a vicious business cycle. It continues. The more people, more products, more profits, more services, more people, and you get the you get the points, you get the hands. So we talked about first memoirs, we talked about um having a journal or a planner to go along with it, creating a children's book, especially when you have a very transformational um book. And if you're speaking to or wanting to serve the uh adults, then you should also try to have something that goes along with it to serve their children. If um there seems to be a cycle of um low self-esteem or a battle with self-worth in the adult, that may be not necessarily has to be, but that may be already passed down into the child. The child may feel it. So we can build up the parent and build up the child. Oh wow, it's a win-win. Number three, a poetry book. Now, I know people love to write poetry, and that was my very first book. But remember, um, and if you're new here and you're just meeting me, um, then you know, my thing is um that was my my first book. But if you're new here and you're just finding me, know that my first book was the book of poetry. I had been writing for some years, and then God said it's time to put the book together. But when I put the book together, I just didn't do a book of poetry. Uh, I was a singer as well. So I did a one-woman show where I read my poetry and then I write music, so I sang as well. So I'm I'm a little bit different. Um, it's not just here's my book of poetry enjoy. It was interactive. I have I appealed to your because some people just want to read it. And then some people like, I enjoy poetry, but I enjoy it when it's spoken to me. Got that too. Here it is, the CD, and here's the DVD. Here's the video, here's the audio. Oh no, no, no. I got you covered. And it has music intermittently, original music by me intermittently, uh, in between um the poems. So I I kind of covered my bases, and the poetry book still stills today. I still have CDs and DVDs. I don't even know if they have a player, but I still have that available. I still have the audio files that you can stream. And that's what I encourage um poets to do: have a reflective journal, but also create audio files. If you have a book of, oh, I don't know, 50 poems in it, create five to ten. Just go in a studio and record them. And you can record them as a group and sell them as a group, all 10 audio files, or you can chop them babies up and do them one at a time. So the audios can be, you know, $199 a piece, or the whole set could be $10. And they can stream audio, it's a beautiful thing. So now you not only have a book, and if you put a journal with it, uh reflective so they can write their own poems with it, that's two products. If you did um 10 audio files, that's 12 products, and then if you sold them together, 10 individual audio files, that's 10, plus the two books, that's 12. And if you put them together, that's 13 products out of one project. 13 products out of one project. That's a multiplication. Some people may just want the one audio, some want the whole set. Some want the book and the um the streamed 10 audio files. You see how that works? More products, more profits, the ability to sell more, to have more, to offer more, to bless the people with more. I'm gonna stop right here. I'll have more next time. I hope that gets your wheels turning um for potential for production and things that and genres that you've written in. I've got two more to go, but I hope that really gets you started and thinking about wow, okay, I have one book, but I could have this many books and audio and variety of genres and formats that can go along with the message and the movement that I already am building. One block at a time, one step at a time. I'm Dr. Julia Royston. Until next time, be blessed. Have a great day.
